History of Highlife Cannabis Co.

With the arrival of legal retail cannabis a little less than three years ago, Highlife has been at the forefront of the industry in the Ontario province being part of the few brands providing an educational, and enjoyable retail cannabis experience. Combining the expertise of the staff with the modern look of their facilities to provide the best customer service to the community with the first location in Sudbury at Silver Hills Centre on Marcus Drive.

Having the help of Former AGCO chairman G.R. Randy Barber earlier in 2019, Highlife used his service under a contract basis and his extensive resume, notably as the vice-chair of the AGCO in 1997, becoming a chairman later in 2001. Also, a member of the Parole Board of Canada and vice president of government relations and regulations at a tech firm, Ontario Entertainment Technologies. Barber helped the company with strategic advice and compliance with the province’s regulations for cannabis.

Highlife CEO Eugene Konarev commented, “Having worked with Mr. Barber as a consultant to Highlife beginning in 2019, I am pleased to say that he has played an integral role in our journey to date. His insight and expertise when it comes to compliance and regulatory affairs is unparalleled, and we are delighted for Mr. Barber to be part of Highlife both as a strategic advisor, as well as an operator of a licensed cannabis retail store under the Highlife brand name. We consider this to be a significant vote of confidence in our brand and our vision here at Highlife, and we are honoured to have the opportunity to be part of Mr. Barber's journey as he launches a cannabis store of his own.”

Helping the community

As the province of Ontario enters yet another lockdown barring most retail shops to keep their doors open to the public and shut down one more time, we are reminded in those difficult times to stay positive and help friends, family and neighbours in need. Cannabis retailers are no exception and play their part in helping out the community as was demonstrated at the beginning of this pandemic with numerous retailers and cannabis companies donating supplies like personal masks, hand sanitizers, etc to hospitals, health care workers, law enforcement personnel. Highlife staff went one step beyond and helped the general public in need of a rare commodity, toilet paper!

After some concerns were raised by the staff about the rarity of the hygienic product in the Sudbury area, CEO Eugene Konarev was able to score a significant amount through the supply channel and decided to lend a helping hand to the community and his staff. A few social media posts mentioning there was no need to make a purchase in-store but simply to present yourself at the Sudbury location to be eligible for 6 rolls of the rare commodity per person.

“If we can help the community in this time of crisis, this is the right thing to do,”

Konarev said.

Amidst the new lockdown in place in the province of Ontario, HighLife both retail locations reverted to curbside pickup from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and the Sudbury location still does delivery service. The store remains open to accommodate the orders in person and the method of payment includes debit, credit, or cash in person. Highlife staff reminds all of their customers to wear the mask and make sure to present two valid pieces of ID on pickup or upon delivery.
