Since the implementation of the Federal Cannabis Act that came into effect on 17 October 2018 and put Canada the second in the list of countries in the world with Uruguay to legalize the cultivation, possession, acquisition and consumption of cannabis and its by-products. Canada was the first G7 and G20 nation to do so. The province of British Columbia was at forefront of this weed revolution across the country. North Vancouver had a rather slow start on retail stores specialized in cannabis products.

Last February, we saw the city council of North Vancouver sent four different applicants to the public hearing stage, mostly concentrated around the Lonsdale Ave and Marine dr area. In 2019 many retailers got their applications refused by the council with concerns over the looks of cannabis products retail stores opaque windows as per the provincial regulations.

“We are always concerned about Lonsdale being our high street, and when the windows have to be blacked out or faded out, this location seems kind of perfect because it’s there, but it’s not really there,” said Councillor Holly Back in late 2019.

Fast forward to 2021, amidst an everlasting pandemic that slows down every aspect of life and businesses, the cannabis retailers seem to have come out on top of this battle and we can now see several bud shops already open in the North Vancouver vicinity and two more big players who are near the completion of their new retail stores which will boost significantly the region’s reputation to become the upscale “high street” they originally intended a few years back.

Eggs Canna Cannabis boutiques brand themselves as “sacred places” and have been growing their brand since 2014 all around the province. EC prides itself on curating a retail experience that is both unique and memorable for the customer. Their brand new location will be situated on the corner of Lonsdale and 1st St E lower Lonsdale. Opening in 2021.

The North Shore Cannabis store is conveniently located right off of the Iron Workers Second Narrows Bridge on Barrow St and easily accessible from all Lower Mainland regions. Freshly open this month, visit them and engage with their cannabis educators who will happily share their knowledge about the selections of products they have to offer.

Quantum1 Cannabis who recently got listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange under the symbol  QQ has already 5 locations in the province, one of them being situated in North Vancouver on Marine Dr. They just secured a new 2400sq location at 41st and Cambie St.

The current situation in North Vancouver is looking much better than a year ago and let’s hope the trend will continue to attract more businesses to set up shop in the area and gives more access to the residents of the north shore to some quality cannabis.
