Origin and Genetics of Northern Lights Strain

Northern Lights has come a long way in its genetics.  Originally it was a pure Indica plant in the 1970s when a man near Seattle by the name of "The Indian" obtained 11 seeds and proceeded to grow.  #1, #2, & #5 turned out best but each with slightly different characteristics.  Then a fellow by the name of Neville Shoenmaker took these 3 back to the Netherlands and proceeded to add Thai & Mexican genetics to the pure Afghani strain.  In the mid 1980s, Sensi Seeds decided to cross all 3 to produce the Northern Lights you know today (for the most part).  The combination is NL#1 × NL#2 × NL#5.   Winner of the 2nd High Times Cannabis Cup in 1989, it started a wave of awards to come afterwards, dominating many Cannabis Cups from all over.  It later retired from competition "so other strains could have a chance".

Physical Form

Tight, dense buds that has a bounce back spongy texture to it.  When grinded, it grows to twice the size it was, producing a nice big and fluffy pile of deliciousness. Shades of olive & minty green blanket the bud with purple & blue tones peppered lightly around.  The odd little wiry burnt orange hair will poke out.

Northern Lights Aroma

Like taking a walk through an evergreen forest where a sweet smell of pine, trees, & earth enters your nasal cavity with all its beautiful freshness.  It feels as if it clears the sinuses, and when you lean in to take another smell, you inhale deeply to capture as much of its essence as you can.

Northern Lights Flavour

A sharp, strong pine flavour hits the palette blended with some earthy notes that is very resiny and the pine flavour is like sap on your lips.  On the exhale the flavour tastes sweetened and is almost candy like.  The combination of flavours make for a real lip smacking blend.
