I was so excited to write this blog highlighting the 2021 Electric Island Festival. It was my first time EVER at an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) show and to top it off it was at Electric Island! Not only was&nbsp; <a href="https://www.leafythings.com/">Leafythings</a>&nbsp;attending with our photo - op ready van, our very own Jane was opening the Saturday show. This was already a weekend we were never going to forget.
The day started bright and early as always, the Leafythings team got together to #BurnANewLeaf before the day begins. This time the team was rolling that&rsquo;s &ldquo;not for the faint of heart!&rdquo;. It was Smokes and Jokes Lot#6267 also known as Koffee Kush. This was the best way to start the day, just like a hot cup of fresh coffee!
After the smoke I decided to go explore and take a live video on our Leafythings Lounge Facebook group - The festival was HUGE. They had 3 stages, all located in different areas of Ontario Place. The Leafythings van was parked next to the main stage. There were several vendors, and bars all spread around as well. It got me wondering &ldquo;how big is this festival?&rdquo;, I&rsquo;ve never been before and didn&rsquo;t know what to expect!
Finally, the doors were open - and the crowd started coming in! The event ran from 11 am-8 pm, with most people coming towards the evening. The Leafythings van door was open and the light was flashing! &ldquo;Come get your Freebies and your photo - ops with us!&rdquo;, the team would be screaming and getting everyone&rsquo;s attention. That&rsquo;s exactly what we started doing - towels, hats, water bottles, and more we&rsquo;re being given out, everyone adding the extra piece of merch to their amazing outfits. Humberly Gonzalez, an actress from Toronto stopped by and got some amazing photos done in the van done by our team. Her outfit was incredible, the rainbow pants and top were both reflective and shining in the sun.

The day continued with merch being given out and weed being smoked! The festival was getting full, the music was blasting and everyone was dancing and being incredibly friendly. Everyone was walking around with some sort of Leafythings merch on, whether it be a hat, a water bottle, or simply a towel for the hot day. We were having so much fun and time was flying by. So much so that I didn&rsquo;t realize that it was almost 3 pm! &ldquo;I have to go!&rdquo; I screamed as I ran across the whole festival to Stage 2 to see our very own Jane perform her first show at Electric Island as DJ Boco!

I arrived at the stage and she had just started her set - The crowd was HUGE, even bigger than the other two stages and this wasn&rsquo;t even the main stage! Boco had her set-list catered to the people, she knew exactly what she was doing. &ldquo;BOCO, BOCO, BOCO!&rdquo; The crowd would chant every time the beat was about to drop. The crowds kept coming and filling up the space while Boco was dancing and smiling and playing what I&rsquo;d think was the best set of the festival! She even had Tik Tok star, Saif Shawf, with over 4 million followers on Tik Tok, join her on stage as he was dancing to the beat. The crowd was going wild during her 2 - hour set everyone dancing and recording videos. It was insane!
Once the set was completed, I joined DJ Boco as her entourage and walked around the festival getting tons of content and photos done as the star herself walked around and was greeted and applauded by everyone. &ldquo;You KILLED it DJ BOCO!&rdquo; one girl said; another saying &ldquo;I would literally die to be her friend!&rdquo;. The people loved DJ Boco and she had made a name for herself. We walked around, going backstage to all the stages meeting the other DJs, and giving out some free Leafythings hats and towels to them all, hoping they&rsquo;d wear them on stage!
Overall, the 2-day festival was incredible. The first day filled with excitement as DJ Boco was opening the festival and the Leafythings team was able to join in and give out freebies to some incredible people! The second day filled with that same excitement and even more memories. This was one for the books and Electric Island will never forget Leafythings!

If you don&rsquo;t already know who Dee Dussault is, well you're about to find out.&nbsp;
She is the creator of Ganja Yoga, a cannabis enhanced yoga experience that was established in Toronto in 2009 and is now something that is offered internationally.&nbsp;
I had the absolute pleasure speaking with Dee and was able to ask her some burning questions I had about the Ganja Yoga movement and where it all began.&nbsp;

<h2>1. What did you discover first, Ganja or Yoga?&nbsp;</h2>
I discovered yoga first, I was 15 and I started a VHS and really loved it, from there I haven&rsquo;t really stopped, but I didn&rsquo;t get into cannabis until my late twenties, so I&rsquo;d been doing yoga for 12 years without cannabis. I tried weed beforehand, in high school and in college but I always got really paranoid, so I just thought it didn&rsquo;t work for me. I tried it again when I was almost 30 and found, just with the right environment, right mood and a smaller amount that I actually really loved weed, a couple years later I started putting them together publicly as classes.

<h2>2. Is that where the idea for Ganja Yoga stemmed from? After you&rsquo;d smoked and realized hey, I like this...</h2>
Yeah definitely, because I had already done quite a bit of yoga, especially during the formative years of high school and it really influenced my spiritual practice and my relationship to my body, so then experiencing it with cannabis after having done so many sessions without cannabis I could really feel a profound difference. So, I wondered if other people would benefit from it in the same way I did, so I wanted to put it out there.&nbsp;

<h2 class="p5">3. What does a ganja yoga class typically look like?&nbsp;</h2>
So, a class with me consists of a stoner social, for the first half an hour, people are invited to come within a window so their trickling in on their own schedule, you don&rsquo;t have to feel like you&rsquo;re running late, and if you're nervous you can come on the earlier side. So, people will trickle in, and they bring their own cannabis here in California just so we are in accordance with the laws, adults are allowed to have cannabis but not allowed to sell it. We can share it, we can possess it, so people bring their own and pretty much just smoke or vape, some might do edibles before coming or maybe they're using CBD products and not getting high but just sort of using a topical, some people are sober you certainly don&rsquo;t have to consume weed but there&rsquo;s plenty to go around if you want to. We then start a really relaxing yoga class for all levels, usually goes between 1hr to 1.5hrs. Then on the other side of the yoga class, it&rsquo;s a leisurely departure, some people want to leave right away they roll their mat up and go home but other people can stay for tea if they wish, there&rsquo;s a sort of community element that I think a lot of other yoga environments don&rsquo;t have as much, it&rsquo;s just as much as about the community as it is about the yoga and the weed.&nbsp;

<h2>4. Do you find there is a diverse mix of ages and people of different cultural backgrounds in each of your classes?&nbsp;</h2>
Yeah definitely, which is really great, we have larger bodied people, a little bit of an older demographic, I&rsquo;ve had students in their 60s and 70s, definitely different races, and probably more men than a lot of usual yoga classes get, I think men can sometimes be intimidated by yoga unless they&rsquo;re already fit, but I think with the cannabis element a less fit man might feel like ok let&rsquo;s check this out, I think something about the weed makes them feel more comfortable.&nbsp;

<h2>5. Do you have any advice for someone who may be new to cannabis that is coming to one of your classes?&nbsp;</h2>
You definitely want to start low and add more slowly, you can add more but can&rsquo;t add less so you don&rsquo;t want to over-consume. That would be the main thing to go slow, someone who has a high tolerance, like myself, I can smoke a whole joint just sitting there, so if you look at me and think you have to do what I&rsquo;m doing, you&rsquo;re not going to feel great if the medicines are going to be too strong.&nbsp;

<h2>6. When you first started in 2009, did you think this cannabis enhanced yoga movement would grow to be what it is today?&nbsp;</h2>
No, I definitely did not think that, I started from a house in Chinatown in Toronto. We ran it as a yoga studio and we could fit 10 students and I had no business experience or marketing. I was an English as a second language teacher and a sexuality academic so I didn't really know how to run a yoga studio or grow a brand. I didn't even know how to use spreadsheets and so now fast forward 13 years.. I&rsquo;ve written press releases, I&rsquo;ve done countless interviews and have been featured in the New York Times and have a Harper Collins book, etc. It's really quite amazing. I&rsquo;m about to release a ganja yoga CBD line as well so that is my next project.

<h2>7. Can you tell our readers about any of the struggles you faced when first starting out? How did you overcome them?&nbsp;</h2>
Yeah so definitely a struggle was not having the business experience so I had to teach myself a lot and you know that was sort of one and then another would be that to help be part of the narrative that's dispelling myths about cannabis you know that it makes you lazy or that it will lead to harder drugs things like that. There was a sort of this myth that if you want to be a yoga practitioner that cannabis was not in accordance with the values of yoga, and so sort of just teaching people like well actually the cannabis is a superfood and it's extremely in accordance with the values of yoga and in fact was present in ancient yoga.&nbsp; So, if someone doesn't want to use cannabis of course we're not trying to convince people that they should but more just to say that there's absolutely nothing wrong with using it for yoga in fact there's a lot of rights.

<h2>8. I read a brief spinet that stated you once had a negative relationship with cannabis. Would you please explain how you changed your relationship with cannabis?&nbsp;</h2>
I used to get really paranoid from that, I tried it a couple of times in high school and college and had really negative mental effects and I think a big part of that was the set and setting as they call it, you know, the environment I was in. If you&rsquo;re in a party environment with people you don't know and lots of different men and different people, you're not going to feel super comfortable on a new drug and your own mood, if you were having tension with your boyfriend cause you're 16 and emotional then it's probably not the best place mentally to be trying drugs. So, I know that if someone's going to try cannabis for the first time, they should do it with people they feel comfortable with, that's why we have the lighting sort of a little dimmer, we have really relaxing music and an hour to socialize so that people can feel comfortable using cannabis. That this really is a safe space, so yeah now I never get paranoid, but I did have to kind of overcome those initial kinds of things that sometimes people get. Not only the setting but also consuming too much, a lot of people take like huge bong rips and stuff and really like one toke is a good start.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
<h2>9. I understand that you are also a sensuality coach, could you tell our readers a little bit about what that is, and what it is you do?&nbsp;</h2>
Yeah, I called it a sexuality coach but I'm not there while people are having sex like literally coaching them like a sports coach, but it is actually a lot of sensuality that's a big part of it and mindfulness. I'm trained in a Tantra yoga tradition; I was trained in Toronto with my teacher there Ananda Shakti and Tantra yoga is not about sex or it's not all about sex I should say but it's really about using the senses and the emotions. Really just allowing the human experience and being less contracted and controlled by limitations and things. So yeah, I coach my clients to reconnect to their sexuality if they feel like they've lost it, if stress and busyness have made them feel disembodied and not horny and not connecting to their partners. Doing yoga or talking about other ways they can get back into their bodies even going for a walk before a date to feel more in tune with yourself versus being on social media until the date starts and you're just sort of diffusing your energies so coaching people in sort of practical but also sort of sensual and spiritual ways that they can reconnect to their sexuality.&nbsp;

<h2>10. Do you incorporate ganja yoga in your sensuality coaching?&nbsp;</h2>
Yeah, it's optional but if people want to include cannabis, then it's an option. I invite people to bring it, so people book sessions with me like a date night with their partner or on their own. Yeah, it&rsquo;s sort of got this ritual but also very accessible and playful kind of vibe. So, my clients really appreciate that there is that authentic sort of spiritual side. It's not so practical and pragmatic that it strips away those authentic roots but on the other hand it's approachable for them, you know the modern-day person or urban person.

<h2>11. Is there anything new on the horizon for Dee Dassault? Your Ganja Yoga experience is now something that is offered worldwide, what&rsquo;s next? you mentioned a CBD line earlier?&nbsp;</h2>
Yeah, so that&rsquo;s the next project! We have the ganja yoga teacher training which I was doing in person before the pandemic and now it's a digital product, but I'll be starting in person ones with really small groups next month so that's an exciting launch, I guess it's resuming. We have teachers around the world now, which is so cool and so the next project is this CBD line with three products.&nbsp; We will have two types of tincture and one pain relieving topical, so you put on your skin and so one of the tinctures will have like a superfood mushroom included in there and organic hemp. So, I'm really excited about that, so that's sort of my next exciting thing and that will be ready for the end of November, black Friday.

<h2>12. Are there any plans on the horizon for you to teach a ganja yoga class here in Toronto?</h2>
Well, I have before but it's been a while cause as you know I started it there and the first three years I was there and then I had a friend take over the classes there and she's since moved to Brazil. So, we don't currently have a Ganja Yoga teacher in Toronto, but my family is still there, so post-pandemic or whenever the time is right, I'll definitely be back but the difficulty is actually finding a space that we can host a public class legally. Canada has a lot of strict regulations with the legality of cannabis. In a way when it was illegal it was easier to do these types of classes, I mean I am a fan of legalization obviously but it's just like we can't really advertise... I have to look into it, you know, for the legal onsite consumption experience.

Not too long ago, the Leafythings team hit the road and headed towards the town of Grand Bend, located in Lambton County in southwestern Ontario. Ready with a fully-packed van of swag bags filled with fun goodies like hats, water bottles, and an assortment of clothing pieces to hand out to beach-goers.&nbsp;

Reaching Grand Bend around mid-day, the team decided to park right outside Ro's Fire Fusion Bar &amp; Grill, and boy, was that a good choice. We quickly set up our famous photo booth and were ready for crowds to start rolling in (no pun intended). The calming sounds of the water nearby, coupled with the sun's warmth beating down, kept the whole team in high spirits.&nbsp;
A few doors down from our set up spot was The Bend Cannabis Co., a licensed cannabis boutique with the friendliest budtenders.&nbsp; This boutique is well known in the Grand Bend area for their Cafe/Lounge called Behind The Bend, ironically located right behind their main storefront. &nbsp;
Behind The Bend Cannabis Co., a little pop-up market was also happening, called The Moonlight Market, which was such a hit! Here you could find things such as soy-based candles, miniature rolling trays, beautiful hand-made jewelry, and spliffs designed specifically for fairies. These were just some of the amazing things offered by vendors.&nbsp;
Not too long after we set up, crowds of people pooled around our van, all waiting to see what was happening. The Leafythings team geared into action to make sure anyone we connected with knew who we were and had a chance for a photo-op. We also made sure they were leaving with a swag bag filled with goodies and a big smile on their face. &nbsp;
As the day turned into night, spirits were high as everyone was enjoying every minute of that beautiful September day. The Moonlight Market was coming to an end, and all the vendors had decided to stop by to see us for some sweet swag bags and photo ops.
Afterward, almost everyone headed into Ro's Fire Fusion Bar &amp; Grill for drinks and Karaoke! Overall, we would like to believe Leafythings left its mark on Grand Bend as we had everyone decked out in Leafythings merch from head to toe. Cannabis and Astrology: Pairings for Your Zodiac Sign

Leafythings spent one of the hottest days of the year at the heart of downtown Toronto, in a neighbourhood famously known for its indie shops, vintage boutiques, and art spaces, also known as Kensington Market.
Did you know that before legalization, this market was already home to a number of popular dispensaries throughout the city, such as Hot Box Cafe, which allowed consumers to light up their cannabis of choice on their backyard patio? This brought a sense of community and gave individuals a safe space to consume their cannabis products safely.&nbsp;
Fast forward to summer 2021, the city was coming alive, and we knew we had to take advantage of the city's returning hustle and bustle, so we drove over to Kensington and set up our Leafythings Van.
As always, we had tons of goodies to give away, but we wanted to take it even further by giving away MORE than our merch... As promised, here is a continuation of cannabis tourist destinations, another little bucket list that we've created for you for the best stoner vacations. This time we're going international, so get your passport ready and pack those suitcases.

Amsterdam is known to be the weed capital of Europe; while cannabis is not legal in the Netherlands, it is decriminalized, which means it's tolerated. &nbsp;
Locals don't partake in the activity of smoking weed; it is purely left for tourists.&nbsp;
Instead of having dispensaries like most other countries do for the distribution and sale of cannabis, Amsterdam is filled with little "coffee shops," not a Caf&eacute; as that's where you would find actual coffee and not the sticky icky herbs you're after.&nbsp;
As a tourist, you may be unsure where to find the right kind of coffee shop; we've got you covered; just check out the "Coffee Shop Info Centre," also known as "CoffeeShopAmsterdam," located only 3 minutes from Central Station. It's an excellent place to start as it can help point you in the right direction. After purchasing your herb, you're able to stick around and spark up in the coffee shop's central area, or you can ask for a private room.
&nbsp;Even though it's technically illegal, you're still able to get away with smoking weed, just don't have more than 5g in your possession, and don't try to smoke in a weed ban area, is all.

Jamaica is known for its beautiful reef-lined beaches, incredible weather, and our running favorite, ganja. There probably isn't anything better than laying out in the hot Jamaican sun with a cold drink...no wait; there is one thing that would make it better, a nice fat spliff.&nbsp;
In Jamaica, cannabis is legal for medical use and decriminalized for recreational use. Jamaica was also one of the first countries to legalize cannabis for religious use, citizens who practice Rastafarianism can utilize cannabis freely for sacramental purposes. &nbsp;
Even though the use of cannabis is still technically illegal, you won't get in trouble for possessing small amounts for personal use. Just remember that smoking in public is not allowed; however, smoking cannabis in dispensaries and private residences is ok. Street cannabis is generally easy to find, but larger <a href="https://www.leafythings.com/marijuana-dispensary/">cannabis dispensaries</a>&nbsp;will not serve a tourist or a resident without a medical marijuana recommendation from a professional.&nbsp;
There are a few ways to experience the cannabis side of Jamaica without the fear of being detained. "Stepping High Festival," considered the ganga music experience, is the longest-running cannabis festival in the Caribbean. Before decriminalization (which occurred in 2015), this was an underground festival; now, it's a 2-day long festival that occurs in Negril. This must-see, must-attend event happens in March every year; however, this may be slightly different due to pandemic restrictions.&nbsp;
"HigherWayTravel" is another excellent option to experience Jamaica's cannabis tourism. They offer cannabis tourism packages, one of which is called "Baked on the beach," which includes accommodations at the famous coral cove resort, meals, activities, and yes, they even provide you with some herb to smoke during your stay. This generally happens in April, right around 4/20.

According to many, Portugal is slowly becoming Europe's hottest destination to visit with its amazing nightlife, architecture, and food. Tourists from all around the world are adding it to their list of destinations to visit. So, it only seemed fitting that we did the same for you.&nbsp;
Portugal decriminalized personal quantities of all drugs in 2001 (yes, you read that right, ALL drugs) marijuana to heroin everything was decriminalized. This was done to help reduce the number of individuals contracting HIV/AIDS from injecting drugs. It was also done to help reduce the number of individuals incarcerated for drug use. Drug use is considered a health concern in Portugal, not a crime.&nbsp;
You will not be bothered for having a small amount on you for your personal use; a 10-day supply is all you're allowed; it translates to be 25grams of cannabis or 5grams of hash. Finding good bud in Portugal is rare; when you do find some, most of it is said to be riddled with seeds. Hash is more readily available for purchase, and the quality of the hash you find is often much better than the quality of cannabis.
Buying cannabis on the street is not recommended, as tourists have been robbed and pickpocketed while trying to do so. Individuals who offer you marijuana on the streets don't have any; instead, they have regular everyday cooking herbs disguised as cannabis. This doesn't mean it's impossible to find, just hard. Heading to a herbal supplement store and making some discreet inquiries might be your best solution. &nbsp;

A tiny country between Argentina and Brazil that's often overlooked, Uruguay is the last cannabis tourist destination on our list of recommendations. It has some of the most stunning beaches in South America, coupled with some of the best resorts.&nbsp;
Uruguay fully legalized the recreational use of cannabis in 2013; currently, it's legal for any citizen 18 years of age or above. Unlike many other countries, locals are allowed to smoke wherever they please, in a public setting or the comfort of their own space; it's all allowed. As of now, it is still illegal for visitors/tourists to purchase cannabis, but that doesn't mean it's illegal to receive it as a gift from a local. Recently there's been much talk about the government considering adjusting the rules to make access to cannabis easier for tourists. The ability to openly purchase your bud for your travels is excellent news for canna-tourists.&nbsp;
&nbsp;If we could recommend one place to visit while in Uruguay, Punta del Este, a city seaside resort called the Ibiza of South America, a playground for the elite, is often packed with multimillion-dollar yachts and skyscraper condos that reach the clouds. It's the perfect spot for some lux relaxation coupled with lots of fun parties and events.&nbsp;
Being a canna-tourist is like being a regular tourist; just canna-tourists are much more relaxed and tend to have way more fun on their vacations. Pro-tip from us to you, always do your best to plan, follow the rules and regulations, and don't get so toked up that it ruins your trip.
