May 3rd to May 9th, (2021) is the Canadian Mental Health Association's Mental Health Week. We took this opportunity to dive deeper into the health, especially mental health, benefits associated with cannabis.

The relationship between substance use and mental health has been an ongoing area of interest for researchers for years.

Patients are seeking natural alternatives to pharmaceutical prescriptions, and weed seems to be the common solution.

However, the common report is small sample sizes and significant limitations in the research make it difficult to conclude whether or not cannabis is an effective treatment for mental health conditions.

Here’s what we know about the health benefits associated with cannabis so far.

Cannabis and Pain

Cannabis use has been scientifically proven to be an effective pain management alternative to pharmaceuticals.

Marijuana eases nerve pain and acts as a muscle relaxant for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients. Oral THC medications were found to help MS patients manage symptoms like spasticity and irregular sleeping patterns.

A study of 244 medical cannabis patients with chronic pain found that patients experienced a 64% decrease in opiate use, decreased amount and intensity of side effects of medications, and improved quality of life.

Cannabis and PTSD

The use of cannabis for therapy methods among PTSD veterans has been found to be a promising area of research as it has been proven to halt night terrors and limit dreams in general.

Cannabis and Anxiety

THC has not been proven to reduce anxiety, but CBD has. A study found that a 600 mg dose of CBD reduced performance anxiety of 24 people with social anxiety disorder.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of anxiety, like agitation, restlessness or ironic fatigue, we recommend trying Dank Deliveries CBD isolate. CBD isolate is a crystalline solid or powder of pure CBD, so you can smoke it in a vape pen and go about your day without the psychological effects associated with THC.

Dank Delivery notes, “The fact that CBD is therapeutically potent as well as non-intoxicating, and easy to take as a CBD oil, makes it an appealing treatment option for those who are cautious about trying cannabis for the first time.”

Due to the lack of extensive research on cannabis and mental health, we highly advise you to consult your doctor or health practitioner before mixing cannabis and pharmaceutical prescriptions.
