Pumpkins are literally everywhere you look in October. You pick them, carve them, make spiced lattes out of them, but have you ever smoked out of one?

Smoking out of a pumpkin may sound strange, because well, it is. But this is 2020, anything goes! Plus, there are some benefits to using a pumpkin bong..

  • They’re super simple to make. If you’ve ever made an apple bong, you know what we’re talking about.
  • They are discrete. For those of you keeping your chronic smoking habit on the down-low, a pumpkin bong will be your new best friend.
  • They’re cheap. Bongs range anywhere from $50 to $150+. Needless to say, pumpkins are cheaper.
  • They’re fun to make. We recommend getting the scary movies ready and inviting your sesh buddies over to make a whole night out of it! If you’re the creative type, you can even paint the exterior of your pumpkins bong.

How to Make a Pumpkin Bong in 2020

So, let's get down to how to make your pumpkin bong. You only need three things: a downstem and bowl, a sharp knife, and a spoon. If you want to decorate your pumpkin you will also need paints, glitter, etc.

Find the right sized pumpkin

You’ll want to use a pumpkin that can easily fit in your hands while you’re smoking it. For a smoother smoke, prioritize height over roundness.

Clean out your pumpkin

Cut a hole in the top of the pumpkin and gut it with a spoon just as you would when carving a jackolantern. Make sure the inside is hollow and clean so there is no pumpkin taste lingering when you smoke your bong. Place the top back on the pumpkin when you’re finished.

Carve your downstem and mouthpiece holes

This is the most important part of the whole project. Be sure to cut your downstem hole and mouth hole (the hole you will be smoking from) on a 45 degree angle, with a sharp knife. Remember to start small, then enlarge as needed so the downstem fits snug into the pumpkin. Your downstem and mouth hole should be opposite from one another, but the height placement is your choice! Choose whatever height feels right for you for packing and smoking a bowl.

Insert the downstem into the pumpkin

The downstem should fit snug in the pumpkin so air doesn’t seep through the cracks. Once you have your downstem and bowl in place, you’re good to go!

Smoke up!

Putting a cup or so of water in the pumpkin will allow for a smoother smoking experience, but it isn’t necessary. Grind your weed, fill your bowl, and enjoy!

Congrats! Now you’ve mastered the art of pumpkin-bong-making. Pumpkins don’t last forever, mind you, so keep an eye on the pumpkin for when it starts to rot. Typical pumpkin shelf life is 2-3 weeks.
