You are in the application process of working for a new company that requires drug testing? Even if cannabis became fully legal in Canada in 2018, many corporations still have the power to enforce drug testing for their employees. Many kits are sold online making big claims of cleansing your body of all THC and its metabolites of all traces of the substances.

With vitamins b-12, proprietary blends of chemicals and herbs supposedly helping in the detox process and the elimination of toxins stored in the body. Well spoiler alert, most if not all of them are just a big scam. Nothing will substantially help you cleanse your body of THC metabolites other than time. Mostly consisting of natural vitamins we should be taking every day, diuretics to help speed up the excretions of THC metabolites, those kits are not worth the price.

Today we will explain how long weed can stay in your system, how cannabis is stored in your body and the expected time needed to safely pass a drug test.

How THC is assimilated in the body

They are two main ways  THC can interact with the human body. When cannabis is vaporized or smoke using bongs, pipes, volcanos or simply smoking a doobie, the cannabinoids are entering your bloodstream via the lungs, travel to your heart and pump throughout your body where it interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors, part of the endocannabinoid system.

The remaining THC is then eventually passing through your liver and breaks down and becomes what’s known as THC metabolites or THC-COOH. 11-Nor-9-carboxy-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (11-COOH-THC or THC-COOH) are technically inactive and are gradually eliminated through urines and feces. THC metabolites bind to fat cells in the body fat before getting slowly eliminated.

How long does weed stay in your body?
As it’s the case with every way weed can be detected in your system, the results will vary strongly depending on a few factors such as:

Dose
The amount of cannabis consumed plays a big role in how long it will stay in your system. The difference can be seen in the amount of THC metabolites present in you if you are a multiples doses a day compared to someone smoking once a weekend.

Frequency
The metabolites can store up in your fat body cells for up to 90 days if you’re a daily smoker the chances of seeing traces of THC in your system 90 days from now are much higher than the occasional smoker who might test negative after 30 days.

Metabolism
The THC-COOH molecule’s presence in your system will shorten if you have a fast metabolism, breaking down THC metabolites at a faster rate and may be undetectable sooner than a person with a slower metabolism.

Marijuana is detectable when analyzing hair follicles and can provide an insight to weed use in the past 90 days. A Saliva test that some jurisdictions where weed is legalized can use for police roadside testing kit, may show metabolites presence if weed has been orally ingested or smoked recently. Blood and urine testing can turn positive for daily smokers for more than 30 days but only a few days to two weeks for occasional users who smoke once or twice a week.

So just be safe and quit smoking a few months before your starting your new corporate job and you should be all good on testing negative.
